She finds that life is much better if you can laugh at yourself and others. She always says that if life gives you lemons, you can make lemonade, build a stands, make money off it and chat buyers so you can make friends all at the same time. Despite her cheery outlook on life, she's well aware of difficulties and works tirelessly to get through them. She's very stubborn and brave. Her mother thought all about independence and not needing a man in her life. She finds the idea of the prince charming ridiculous, and way to keep women down. Her philosophy is that if a man can do it, so can she, which means she can drink, smoke, curse, and then she turns around and she can flirt, giggle and bat her eyes, because there's no reason not to use all of her weapons. Special abilities/strengths/flaws She's been described as one of the brightest witches of her generation. This is a combination of genetics (her family was made up of very bright wizards) and studying. There isn't a book she hasn't liked (except for teary romance novels, but those aren't real books). She excels in disguise spells and glamours. She's a talented duellist. She worked undercover for the Aurors when there were fewer women in their ranks. She rarely gets upset for real, but when she does, the object of her anger should run far away. Patronus: Siberian tiger Relevant backstory Her grandfather worked in the Ministry in the International Law Department and travelled a lot. During one of these travels in Korea, her mother fell for a Korean boy and got pregnant. She didn't become aware of the pregnancy until they had returned back to the UK. She refused to name the father, and decided that she wanted to raise the child even though she was barely eighteen. Her family supported her. Magdalene made the choice of having a second child five years later. She found a man she found acceptable, made sure to get pregnant, and then erased his memory so that there would be no interferences from the father. Later on, Magdalene admitted to Marlene that the infatuation with her father was more the result of what she thought she was supposed to want and not what she really wanted. She also confided that she was a lesbian. Marlene's mother was a great influence on her. She taught Marlene how to face life without losing hope and how to laugh in the face of adversities. When students made fun of her for being a bastard, she joked with them, and got her revenge later (boys with pink hair were not welcomed in the early 60s). At Hogwarts, she was sorted into Gryffindor, but she always thought she should have been a Ravenclaw. She might be brave, but that was the only trait she shared with the rest of her house. She was as smart as a Ravenclaw, sly as a Slytherin and friendly as a Hufflepuff. In short, she hated the House system. She distinguished early on for her abilities in Defence and Charms, but even more, she distinguished for making people like her, despite of the house. She even had a few Slytherin friends. She became prefect and Head Girl, butting head with the then Head Boy, one annoying prat aka Alastor Moody. As soon as she finished school, she joined the Auror. There weren't many women in the Division and she had to work twice as hard to prove herself, but she didn't mind. She learnt pretty early to become 'one of the boys'. She drank, smoked and told dirty jokes. She could take down any wizard, regardless of size and knew plenty of barely legal hexes for anyone who tried to grope her one too many times. With the rise of the Dark Lord, working as an Auror didn't seem enough. Her grandfather, who went to school with Albus Dumbledore, was part of the Order and eventually both her, her sister and her mother got involved too. They became very prominent in the fight against Voldemort, speaking against him, and using their pureblood influence to take away supporters. On the day of her 33 birthday, the 20 of August of 1981, Death Eaters attacked the old estate. Marlene and her whole family were in the garden for a party and they were all murdered.
